THE PRODUCT
MyCollection is a powerful & free product housed within the larger Heritage Auctions platform that allows collectors to quickly & easily catalog & track their collections - an unmet need for many. Any purchases from their online auctions are automatically added, but users can also add items acquired from elsewhere to build a robust & searchable database useful for a wide variety of needs.
It is strategic to the business in attracting & developing loyal & engaged users, identifying new items for auction, and capturing additional revenue through it’s Make Offer to Owner marketplace.

TEAM LEADERSHIP
Early in the project it became evident that group decisions were being made by allegiance, stifling the free flow of ideas and an open-minded commitment to problem solving. I find great satisfaction mediating in the midst of these situations to open lines of communication, build empathy, and achieve alignment.

Early in the project it became evident that group decisions were being made by allegiance, stifling the free flow of ideas and an open-minded commitment to problem solving. Conducting North Star & Branding workshops set the course for building a product identity & design system that would enhance HA's prestige and position as a serious contender in the ultra high end auction space.

Starting with conceptual alignment on the core fundamentals meant we designed things right the first time and saved countless hours of revisions.
User interviews uncovered a number of frustrations around the curent experience and surfaced entirely new ways to serve them and deliver value.

Executive buy-in with limited access

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Due to company policy and holiday schedules we were limited to one short presentation with the CEO following discovery and had to rely on intermediaries the rest of the time.
To manage this higher level of risk we secured an internal champion by building a rock solid relationship with the client project lead, and prepared extensively for the CEO presentation. Execution went extremely well, winning leadership sign-off and keeping the project timeline on track.

We treated not just the handoff week but the whole project as an opportunity to coach our fellow designers, developers, and project managers, learning their process and sharing our own. To help prepare for the road ahead we recommended the additional resources to consider hiring first and helped write job descriptions. We booked plenty of time for training & knowledge transfer with design & dev teams on the designs, prototypes, and design system in Figma.
Taking these steps throughout the project meant that we could keep up our velocity on the design backlog and future state items right up until the bell, avoiding any slowing of the remaining team's momentum.
